Body Confidence – Advice for Dressing To Suit Your Shape

Body Confidence: Advice For Dressing To Suit Your Body Shape

Warm knitted, autumn, winter clothes hanging on a rack, trending concept, pastel colors

Clothing is a way for us to express who we are. It’s an outlet for our personalities to shine through.

We shouldn’t let what we wear be affected by the opinions of others or society’s unrealistic pressures of what we ‘should look like’.

Sometimes however, that little negative inner voice inside all of us gets its way and affects our body confidence and the fashion choices we make. You may look at the people that you admire around you and think ‘they must not have any insecurities’… but no. Everyone has their own niggles and worries about the way they look. It’s all about celebrating this fact and dressing to tell the little voice to politely, mind its own business.

Easier said than done? Being confident in what you wear and how you choose to portray yourself does tend to be something that comes with age, unfortunately.

Therefore it is important for women and men of all ages to discuss tips and tricks for dressing to give ourselves a much-needed body confidence boost.

Hopefully, they will leave us walking down the street with our heads held high.

Know your body…

Tip number one is to really learn about your body in terms of its shape and features. Once you understand this, you can figure out the types of clothing that will accentuate your body in all the right places. Whether this be the neckline, trouser fit or length, sleeve type or even fabric…

We’ve all been there where we see something on a hanger and think ‘yes I need’, then go to try it on and feel completely deflated with how it looks. Experiences like this can really dent body confidence, so knowing what works for you will make going shopping a whole lot easier and more enjoyable!

Once you know what works, why not alter clothing you already have? The Alterations Boutique Manchester offer a range of clothing alteration services such as ball gown alterations, blouse alterations, coat alterations and more. You can transform any piece of clothing into something that makes you look and, most importantly, feel amazing for an affordable price.

Figuring out your body shape is one thing, but it is also important to remind yourself regularly what you love about yourself. If you like your long legs or curves, show them off!

Find your colours…

Whether we realise it or not, we all have that one colour that suits us down to the ground. Maybe it’s a bright red, khaki green or a clean white… It all depends on skin tone, eye colour, hair colour and more… But when you find it, try not to forget it.

Of course, don’t take it to the extreme and wear the same colour everyday, but keep it in mind so that when you really want to feel special, you know how to go about it.

Define your style, to an extent…

This body confidence tip is one that may help, but also could be taken with a pinch of salt. Finding your own unique style might come more easily to some than others. For example, you may absolutely love and feel fabulous in bright clashing patterns or you might thrive wearing all black everything. Defining your style might help you to feel confident in who you are.

On the other hand, it is important not to limit ourselves in this respect. For some, trying to pinpoint the fashions we like and dislike may do more harm than good. If you prefer to be a style chameleon and change it up, go for it!

Listen to your instinct (no one else’s)…

The final and most important tip for dressing to boost your body confidence is to listen to yourself. You might have an item of clothing that you have never received a compliment on or even a second glance, but you feel a million dollars in it. If so, wear it, wear it and wear it some more!

The power of wearing an outfit you love cannot be underestimated and is a surefire way to improve your day.

Body confidence is something that we all struggle with, to different extents yes, but is still something we all have in common. Hopefully, these tips have provided you with some inspiration for making yourself feel like the queen (or king) you are.

Stay Stylish
